Scott to Tour Community on the Frontlines of Flooding with the Chair of the Climate Crisis Committee

July 6, 2019
Press Release

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – On Tuesday morning, Congressman Bobby Scott will host Congresswoman Kathy Castor, the Chair of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, for a tour of the City Line and Paula Maria Village apartments, a residential community along the Newport News and Hampton border that has dealt with repetitive flooding from Newmarket Creek. As nuisance and destructive floods become more common in Hampton Roads and around the world due to climate change and sea level rise, understanding the risk that communities on the frontlines of flooding face is essential in planning to better adapt and respond. The tour will be followed by an informative briefing with staff representing the cities of Newport News and Hampton at Newport News City Hall.
