Scott Statement on FY 2012 Agriculture Appropriations Act

November 17, 2011
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott issued the following statement on the Fiscal Year 2012 Department of Agriculture and Related Agencies Appropriations bill:

"While I supported the bill because it funds vital functions of the federal government, I am concerned that it included a provision that limits the Department of Agriculture's ability to make much needed changes to school lunch standards to improve the overall nutritional value of what is served in public school cafeterias. Studies have consistently shown that better nutrition leads to improved concentration, school performance, and positive behavioral outcomes. Congress should be more focused on the needs of our children and not the needs of particular interest groups."
