Scott Statement on Continued Efforts to End Trump Shutdown, Guarantee Pay for Federal Employees

Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC  – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement:

“Thousands of federal employees did not receive their pay checks today because President Trump is holding them as hostages to get funding for a wall that he always promised would be paid for by Mexico. The shutdown has caused unnecessary financial pain to thousands but also jeopardized the security of our nation. This must stop.

“I was proud to support legislation today to ensure that all federal employees receive retroactive pay once we end this pointless shutdown. As of tomorrow, this will be the longest government shutdown in our nation’s history. Since the 116th Congress was sworn in last week, the House has voted numerous times to end the shutdown, including legislation that Senate Republicans overwhelmingly supported last month. Unfortunately, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has not allowed any of those bills to come up for a vote.”
