NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after signing on as a co-sponsor of HR 2472 the Disability Integration Act:

“Today I’m joining as a cosponsor of the Disability Integration Act.  Despite the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) becoming law more than 28 years ago, many individuals with disabilities are still forced to live in segregated settings due to the way our health care system provides services.  All Americans with disabilities have the right to achieve economic self-sufficiency, live independently, and fully participate in all aspects of their community.

“Individuals with disabilities leaving segregated settings and moving into the community need accessible, affordable housing and accessible, reliable transportation. As the Disability Integration Act moves forward, it is important that funding of these services is included to ensure proper support to enable individuals with disabilities to live healthy, independent lives in their community.”
