Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement after attending the Oval Office proclamation signing which designated Fort Monroe in Hampton, Virginia a national monument:

"I was honored to attend today's ceremony in the Oval Office with the President as he exercised his authority under the Antiquities Act to designate Fort Monroe a national monument. Like similar protections for the Statue of Liberty, the Colonial National Monument and the Grand Canyon, today's action by the President preserves another great American landmark for future generations. I am grateful for the President and his Administration for recognizing the historical importance of Fort Monroe and the economic opportunities this will bring to the City of Hampton and the Commonwealth of Virginia."
