Scott receives the Distinguished Statesmen in Education Advancement Award
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) received the “Distinguished Statesmen in Education Advancement” award from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation during the eighth annual Avoice Heritage Celebration. The event lauds the legacy of African-American legislators and acknowledges efforts made to preserve African-American legislative history.
Congressman Scott, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, received the award in recognition of his commitment to advancing educational opportunity for African-American students and his commitment to addressing equality and equitable access to education.
“I am honored to receive the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Distinguished Statesmen in Education Advancement award,” said Congressman Scott. “It is important for legislators across the country to continue to engage stakeholders, so that we can better protect the civil rights of our most vulnerable students. We cannot expect our children to achieve, when they are not given an equal opportunity to succeed. I thank the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation for this recognition, as I continue to work to advance the civil rights of all children and guarantee that every child has access to a quality education.”
