Scott Honored at Virginia State Conference NAACP Annual Freedom Fund Gala
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – On Friday, November 13, 2020, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), the Chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor, was the honoree at the Virginia State Conference of the NAACP’s 85th Annual State Convention’s Freedom Fund Gala. Congressman Scott was given the Freedom Fighter Award for his life-long work to advance equity in education and fighting for economic and racial justice.
“I was grateful to be honored at this year’s Freedom Fund Gala,” said Congressman Scott. “I have been involved with the NAACP for my entire adult life and I served as president of the Newport News branch in the 1970s. During my time in Congress, I have been fortunate to work on a number of legislative issues that are also NAACP priorities, such as education, civil rights, fairness in the workplace, criminal justice reform and access to healthcare. The progress we have been able to make in these areas is only possible because of the strong support from members of the NAACP. We have difficult days ahead, but I am optimistic about our ability to tackle the hard work ahead of us because I know we will have the strong support from outstanding organizations like the Virginia State Conference of the NAACP. I am thankful for this honor and I look forward to the work we have to do together.”
House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (SC-06), State Senator Mamie Locke, Delegate Marcia Price, and leaders from the Virginia State Conference of the NAACP honored Congressman Scott during the program.
