Scott Announces Federal Investment from the American Rescue Plan to Expand Access to COVID-19 Vaccines in Hampton Roads
NEWPORT NEWS, VA –Earlier today, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) applauded the Biden-Harris Administration for announcing a series of actions to expand access to COVID-19 vaccines to the hardest-hit and highest-risk communities across the country. With funding from the American Rescue Plan, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will invest almost $7.5 million to community health centers in Hampton Roads. As chair of the House Education and Labor Committee, Congressman Scott was critical in the drafting and passage of the American Rescue Plan.
“Today’s announcement by the Biden-Harris Administration is more proof that the American Rescue Plan is working as Congress intended and working to crush the virus,” said Congressman Scott. “The American Rescue Plan was written with equity as a core focus. These investments will ensure that communities that are hard-hit by the pandemic will have equal access to the vaccines. The effective and equitable distribution of vaccines will ensure that we stop the spread of the virus, get students back in schools and get people back in jobs.”
The Southeastern Virginia Health System (formerly known as the Peninsula Institute for Community Health) in Newport News will receive $4,659,500 and the Portsmouth Community Health Center in Portsmouth will receive $2,767,125.
