August 20, 2012
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) announced today that his office is now accepting applications for nominations for eligible high school students in the 3rd Congressional District of Virginia wishing to attend one of our nation's five service academies.

Each year hundreds of young men and women are chosen to fill positions at each of our nation's service academies. Students can receive nominations from the Vice President of the United States, their United States Senator, or their Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives. Students can also pursue a military-service-connected nomination. Due to the competitive nature of the nomination process, students are encouraged to pursue multiple routes to securing a nomination.

The service academies provide a full four-year scholarship, which is valued at more than $150,000. After four years of college-level education and training, cadets or midshipmen are commissioned as junior officers in the appropriate branch of the military and commit to serve a minimum of five years.

"It is one of my greatest privileges as a Member of Congress to nominate the best and brightest students in my congressional district to attend one of our nation's service academies," said Rep. Scott. "I encourage all students wishing to serve their nation to consider applying for a nomination through my office."

The deadline for nominations for Fall 2013 is Friday, November 16, 2012.
