Rep. Scott to Host Ernesto Aftermath Meeting Tonight
On Friday, September 1, Tropical Storm Ernesto entered the Hampton Roads region bringing with it high winds, a tidal surge and heavy rain. Flooding forced many local residents out of their homes, some of whom are still waiting to return. At this forum, Congressman Scott will bring elected officials and local, state, and federal agency representatives from fifteen different agencies to make sure the needs of these citizens are being addressed and long term solutions are being considered.
"This meeting will give citizens a chance to speak directly to the agencies responsible for providing relief," Congressman Scott said. "Along with answering the public’s questions, we want to find out what worked, what needs to be changed, and how we can improve our response."
Present at the meeting will be representatives from the Newport News City Council and City Manager’s Office, Newport News Fire and Police Departments, Newport News Public Works and Code Compliance, Newport News Housing and Redevelopment Authority, Newport News Public Schools, Newport News Social Services, Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, Virginia State Emergency Management, Virginia Health Department, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the American Red Cross.
John Marshall Elementary School is located at 743 24th Street, Newport News. The public is invited to attend.
