WASHINGTON, D.C. – Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued an emergency workplace safety standard requiring employers with 100 or more employees to ensure all their workers are vaccinated or produce a negative test on a weekly basis. “The Biden Administration’s emergency workplace safety standard is a turning point in the fight against COVID-19. As more than 1,200 Americans continue to die every day from COVID-19, I applaud President Biden and the Department of Labor for taking decisive action to protect our workers, families, and businesses.

PUMP Act would ensure nursing mothers have the time and privacy they need to pump at work
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the House passed bipartisan legislation that would strengthen and expand workplace protections for nursing mothers. The Providing Urgent Maternal Protections (PUMP) for Nursing Mothers Act requires employers to provide nursing workers the break time and privacy they need to pump at work to keep themselves and their infants healthy. The bill extends nursing mother protections to the nearly 9 million workers – including farmworkers, teachers, and transportation workers – who are currently excluded under current law. It also gives workers the tools to hold employers accountable when their rights are violated.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – On Monday, October 18th, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) will host a webinar on financial aid for students and parents. He will be joined by a panel of experts from the Access College Foundation to answer any-and-all questions students and parents may have about the federal financial aid process and other available resources. All federal student aid, including Pell Grants, requires students and families to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

New analysis finds Biden plan could provide significant cost savings to families across Virginia
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – According to a new analysis released today by the House Committee on Education and Labor, the Build Back Better Act could save Virginia families thousands of dollars in child care costs each year. The Committee’s report found that the typical Virginia family of four with one infant in full-time center-based child care would save $12,680 each year. The typical Virginia family of four with one infant and one child in full-time center-based child care would save $24,280 each year. “This is why we need to pass the Build Back Better Act,” said Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), the Chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor. “For too long, the exorbitant cost of child care has strained family budgets and pushed millions of Americans out of the workforce, particularly women.
