WASHINGTON, DC - On Saturday, the New Kent County, Virginia Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) awarded Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (D-VA-3) with the Congressman of the Century Award.  According to the New Kent NAACP, the award was given to Rep. Scott "As Congressman Of The Century For Your Contribution To Equality And Justice For All Americans."

The NAACP, the nation's oldest, largest and most widely recognized grassroots-based civil rights organization, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

"I am honored to receive this prestigious award from the NAACP.  The goals I have accomplished in my public service career are due in part to the hard work and dedication of the NAACP in this Congressional district and beyond," said Rep. Scott. 

The award was presented to Rep. Scott at the New Kent County NAACP Annual Dinner Saturday night, December 12, 2009, by Branch President Ed Pollard.
