WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the House Judiciary Committee held a markup of H.R. 1064, the Youth Prison Reduction through Opportunities, Mentoring, Intervention, Support, and Education Act, referred to as the Youth PROMISE Act. The Committee voted to report the bill favorably to the whole House of Representatives by a vote of 17-14.

Simonsdale Elementary has been serving the Simonsdale community since it first opened in 1946, and today it educates approximately 315 students from pre-Kindergarten through sixth grade.

"Bobby" Scott (D-VA-03) will host U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan for a visit to An Achievable Dream (AAD), a Newport News public school, on Friday, November 20, 2009. Secretary Duncan and Rep. Scott will begin with a tour of AAD's elementary school, where they will observe students and teachers in various classrooms. Following the tour, Secretary Duncan and Rep.
